undance Solar Systems is a locally owned renewable energy business specializing in the design, sale and installation of photovoltaic and wind energy systems. We have been in business serving south-central Montana for eleven years and have installed over 100,000 watts of stand-alone and grid intertie systems as well as several irrigation and stock water pumping systems. Sundance Solar Systems is committed to helping advance the energy technology of the future by providing free consultation and system design as well as after sale technical support. If you are wondering if a renewable energy system is right for you please look over the criteria below, call us at 406/425-1153, or contact us by clicking the e-mail button below.  Sundance Solar Systems is owned and operated by Henry and Barbara Dykema.

Renewable Energy Systems Information

Montana is an ideal area for generating electricity either by sun or wind. We are lucky to enjoy reliable and consistent sunshine and in many areas powerful wind. The primary reason renewable energy systems do not have a larger presence in Montana is our historically low cost for utility electricity. In 1997 the State Legislature deregulated Montana's energy market and as a result most energy consumers in the state have seen their electricity bill begin to rise. As utility rates go up and costs for renewables go down more grid connected people will consider making their own power joining the hundreds of Montanans who own property away from the grid and/or value the reliability and independence of producing their own power.

When you should consider a solar or wind electric system

-         You are building at least ¼ mile from utility lines.

-         You require reliable, consistent electricity.

-         You are already using a generator.

-         You are concerned about future electricity rates.

-         You are concerned about the continued impacts of fossil fuel dependence.

-         You appreciate your independence.

What is a grid-intertie system?

A grid-intertie system is one where you produce electricity from wind or sun and use it in your home or send it out to the grid. You do not use batteries but depend on utility power during the night or low wind and cloudy periods.  Northwestern Energy will install a "net-meter" that runs in both directions to credit customers with approved grid-intertie systems.

What is a stand-alone system?

A stand-alone system is one where you produce electricity from the wind or sun and use it in your home or store in a battery bank for use at night or during low wind or cloudy periods. Stand-alone systems provide independence from the grid and/ or will provide grid backup.
